Insert Effects and Master Effects for the D1200MKII and D1600MKII Recorders The following are screen shots from a D-1600 (D1200 has the same effect sections) |
|
|
The D1200mkII and D1600mkII have three kinds of effects; INSERT effects, MASTER effects and FINAL
effects.
INSERT EFFECTS An INSERT effect can be used for one track while a stereo MASTER effect can be used on as many tracks as required. The effects section in the D1200mkII and D1600mkII recorders allow for up to eight insert mono effects, two stereo master effects and one stereo final effect to be used simultaneously. The Effects utilize Korg's REMS effects modeling technology, featuring microphone, amplifier, cabinet and vintage effects modeling algorithms. 128 presets and 128 user program locations are provided for insert effects, with 32 preset and 32 user program locations provided for both master and final effects. The 106 different effects that are provided can be linked into multi effect chains of up to five effects each. An expression pedal input is also included, allowing for real-time control of effects parameters. Insert effects can be used on input, while recording, and then again on playback. |

To use the INSERT effects, press the INSERT button. Then choose the kind of INSERT effects you want to use. Here, MONO (input) and STEREO (output) effects are selected, 1in2outx2, perfect for a guitar or bass. The x2 means that there are two completely different multi-effects that you can use (InsEff1 and InsEFF2) |
|
|
|
| Notice the two
InsEFF1 and 2 tabs.
If, in the previous screen, had you chosen 1in1outx8, then there would be 8 InsEff tabs (1 through 8) which means eight individual mono effects at the same time. |

The next step is to choose
the effect. Here, GT3:GuitarMulti3# has been selected.
|
| You can see here, that to open an effect box, just touch the box with the name of the effect (D16 and D1600). |

In this effect (GTR3: GuitarMulti3#) you will see Distortion, Noise Reduction, Amp Simulator, Cabinet Resonator, Delay and external Control (for connecting an external expression pedal). |
| Touch the Dist (Distortion) box and it opens up for editing. Change the "Crush" to "Valve" or one of many other choices. On this effect you can adjust the Type, Drive, Level and Treble. |

A different INSERT EFFECTS option is 1in1 outX8. This means you can use 8 mono-in/mono-out effects at the same time. This is the screen that shows you which Insert effect is assigned to which track. Insert effect 1 is assigned to track 1, Insert effect 2 is off, etc. |
| Having 8 INSERT effects is very handy when recording eight tracks simultaneously (like a live band) and want a different effect on each track. Here you see that INSERT Effect 5 (Eff5) is a Limiter. |

Touch the SN5:Limiter box and it opens to allow for editing each parameter. This effect actually has a second page of parameters, accessed by the Next box. |
|
MASTER EFFECTS Master effects are global, meaning they can be used by all the tracks. First you pick and modify (if required) the Master effect, then you decide how much of that effect to send to each track in the EffSnd1 (Master effect #1) or EffSnd2 (Master effect #2). |
|
| Choose the stereo MASTER effect (M001 is RV1:ReverbHall in this photo). Select it by touching (D16 and D1600) the box. Once it opens, select (touch) the HALL box to open it. Once opened, you can edit each parameter and listen to the changes while you are doing it. |

FINAL EFFECTS The stereo FINAL effect processor is for "tweaking" your mix before mastering. The stereo FINAL effects processor is designed for your entire mix, applying the effects in stereo for mastering. This is where you might apply a stereo multi-band compressor-limiter or similar type of effect. The entire output of the D1600 feeds into the Final Effects when used. All of the above effects processors, INSERT, MASTER and FINAL can be used simultaneously. |
