Noel Redding: In 1962, quit school to join the Lonely Ones, his first band. For the next couple of years he played
Europe with Burnettes and the Loving Kind. He also played with Tom Jones and played on Freddie Lennon's (John's Father ) only record. He was on his way to America to try out for the New Animals when ex-Animal Chas
Chandler asked if he wanted to play bass for Jimi Hendrix.
Mitch Mitchell: Began playing in rock bands at age of 13. He worked in Marshall's Music Store
(The same Marshall that Jimi got the amplifier from). After Noel had already been playing with Jimi Hendrix, Jimi's manager Chas
Chandler called Mitch up and asked if he would like to play with Jimi.
The Story Behind Red House: Jimi Hendrix loved the blues. Red House is a song that shows how much it influenced him.
Although Red House was recorded in December 1966, the origin of it was in April of the same year. In the studio, it was
said that the band stood around for about five minutes, discussed the song, then recorded it. Noel had been a guitar
player before he took the job as the bassist in the Experience. On this song, he uses the bass strings of a six string guitar as
the bass. He would usually use a guitar to follow Hendrix when songs were being completed and then change to bass to
record the song. This time, they just ended up recording with a second guitar. Red House was only released on the British
version of Are You Experienced? The record company didn't feel that Americans wanted to hear blues music, so Red
House was not released in America until 1969. The version of Red House on the American record wasn't the same as the
British version. Red House was obviously influenced by the blues, but there is not one song that influenced Jimi's
recording more than another.
